Am besten, schnellsten
und "fehlerlosesten" laufen die Plug-in-Seiten (i)
mit dem Netscape 4.75
( auch 4.03 u. 4.06 mit Win95 und Win98!);
beim IE (auch 5.5!) kommen leider immer
wieder Plug-in Fehlermeldungen! Man muss dann alle Fehlermeldungen
"abklicken", den Browser manchmal schließen und den IE neu starten oder
sogar Windows neu starten. MSIE unterstützt leider die Plug-in Technologie nicht ausreichend. Hier ein Zitat von Eric Martz, dem "Chime Champion":
"Chime will work partially, sometimes, and sort-of on MSIE. See www.mdli.com/support/chime for details. On MSIE, if you get it to work at all, you'll get some images. This often misleads people -they see molecules so they assume Chime is "working" in MSIE. The images often will not be the correct images, and many functions which work in Netscape won't work at all in MSIE. So if you're going to use Chime, install Netscape 4.5. There is nothing to prevent you from having both Netscape and MSIE installed and using MSIE for everything else.
This dichotomy is because Netscape defined the plugin (Chime is a plugin) and MSIE has never felt it important to support plugins fully. It is not within the control of MDL (authors of Chime) unless they were to write a completely different version for MSIE. Since they aren't even supporting SGI or linux Netscape due to limited resources for freeware development, supporting MSIE in this way is out of the question, I imagine."

October 10, 2001On August 3, we warned our customers and user community that Microsoft had unexpectedly removed support for the plug-in interface and was therefore incompatible with existing versions of Chime and Chime Pro. At the time, we asked our customers to hold off upgrading to Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 or any later version.
We are pleased to announce that we are now confident of delivering a short-term solution to this problem as part of Chime and Chime Pro 2.6 Service Pack 3 (SP3). This service pack is designed to work with IE 5.5 SP2, and we expect to be able to extend compatibility to 6.0 at a later date. When used with IE 5.5 SP2 (but not 6.0), this service pack should also have the benefit of fixing the printing problems that have been reported against previous versions of IE 5.5.
For the longer term, the Chime team will be continuing to work on architectural changes that will allow Chime to be more independent of the underlying browser technologies. We will release details of these changes on the Chime website once they are firm.
